File 0002.6: A whole new stream

A whole new stream!

Somehow that sounds very wrong, which makes we wonder why stream or livestream is the word that was chosen to represent livestreaming. Let me quickly google that (as if I am talking live to you now my dear reader)

“The term “streaming” was first used for tape drives manufactured by Data Electronics Inc. that were meant to slowly ramp up and run for the entire track; slower ramp times lowered drive costs. “Streaming” was applied in the early 1990s as a better description for video on demand and later live video on IP networks.”

Well, that’s boring. Anyway! Story time. So over the years I’ve accumulated 100s of videogames. On PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and Steam, this is quite a normal process which millions of other gamers can relate to.

Obviously, as with many gamers I’ve only finished some of them. Even if I buy games that are brand new and just came out, the chance that I will finish them is quite low. Life happens of course but sometimes you also got bored of a game, or it’s a stupid game and you just don’t wanna play it anymore because it’s stupid and unfair and controls is bad and it’s never my fault.

But I digress…

So, as with many things I need some motivation to complete games and give a reason why I spent so much money on them (although some of them were dirt cheap in summer/Christmas deals and that’s the reason why I have so many games).

Thus, a plan formed. What if I livestream the games as a motivation to “complete” my steam library. It accomplishes three things:

  1. If I live stream, I feel more accountable as there is “proof” if I don’t finish it.

B. If I live stream, I will have new content for my YouTube channel which is severely needed as currently it’s a bunch of unfinished let’s plays

Lastly, it will give me an opportunity to finally finish games I’ve been neglecting for long and experience them as they “should” be experienced.

Currently I have 385 games in my steam library, obviously this is a humongous task and I doubt if I will ever be able to “complete” it, and that’s assuming I never buy any new games at all but at least I have enough games to start with.

To clarify, my definition of complete means that I will be completing the story of the game. If I would have to 100% the games I will never finish my list.

At the time of writing I have completed one game (Assassin’s Creed 3) and currently playing Assassin’s Creed 4, comparing both games seems to be unfair to Assassin’s Creed 3. AC3 is fine gameplay wise and even story wise, I was engaged but it is a very depressing era and also the ending is very depressing. AC4 seems a lot lighter (even though it’s bloodier) and the main character actually seems to enjoy himself doing what he does. (which does sound weird seeing he is a sort of assassin.

Anyway, still a lot of Assassin’s creeds to play, not to mention all the other long form games I have on my list (All the Baldur Gates for example) so see ya later. I will put up a link somewhere to my youtube channel if there isn’t one already.
